About the NVS
What is English Country Dancing?
If you are completely new to the exciting world of Country Dancing, be it English, Scottish, Irish or American, then you can find out more by following the links, but first we suggest you read an excellent summary of what English Country Dancing is, or you may be interested in the historical background.
What does NVS stand for and how old is it?
The NVS was founded in 1946 as the Nederlandse Volksdans Stichting, hence the initials (Dutch Folk Dance Foundation), but when it was decided to have a more democratic structure, the name was changed but the old initials were kept (Folk Dance Society NVS).
What does the NVS do?
The NVS organises dance activities at local and national level in the field of English, Scottish and American dance. These activities are announced and reported on in the two-monthly magazine “Dansnieuws”. The NVS also has a sales point (including some in-house productions) and maintains a dance archive of books and recordings.
